Day of DH at Western: From Buttons to Big Ideas
Day of DH was, quite simply, a great day. From the morning sessions exploring digital platforms, storytelling, and sociotechnical futures, to the afternoon conversations on archives, performance, and cultural knowledge, it was energizing to see the range of work happening across campus. Podcasting, mapping, medieval sound, AI and philosophy, weaving and infrastructure… it was all there, and all in conversation. What I loved most was the feeling in the room. Curious, generous, open. And not just in the talks. We had button making. We had coffee chats. We had people wandering between sessions, stopping to ask questions, making connections, trying things out. That hands-on, “DH makes” spirit was very much alive. A huge thank you to the organizing committee for bringing this together. It takes a lot of care (and coordination!) to create a day that feels both thoughtful and welcoming, and it showed. I especially enjoyed hearing about the incredible work happening across Western. It’s easy to get tucked into our own corners, so having a space to share, listen, and connect really matters.
Here’s hoping this is just the beginning, and that we get to do it all again.
